A beautiful website that nobody contacts is just an expensive business card. Here are the five things I look at first when a site isn't getting messages.

1. A headline that says what you do

Visitors decide in seconds whether they're in the right place. "Welcome to our website" wastes those seconds. Say what you do and for whom.

2. One main button, repeated

Pick the one action you want and repeat it: at the top, in the middle and at the end. Visitors who are ready shouldn't have to hunt for it.

3. Proof near the button

A short review, a logo, a number or a photo of real work right next to the call to action does more than a whole testimonials page nobody visits.

4. A form that feels easy

Ask only what you need to reply. Name, email, one question. Every extra field costs you messages.

5. A fast site on a phone

Most visitors are on their phone. If the page is slow or the button is tiny, they're gone. Test your own site on your own phone, today.

None of this is fancy. It's just the stuff that's easy to forget when you're focused on how things look.
